About the Event

With each passing year, pets are increasingly seen as members of the family. As such, more families seeking shelter from family violence have a pet.

When a shelter is unable to welcome families with pets, this creates a barrier to safety. Research studies have shown that up to 65% of women will delay going to a shelter because of concerns about their pets and shelter women are nearly 11 times more likely to report their partner hurt/killed their pet. With less than 10 pet-friendly domestic violence shelters in Canada, the SAF-T Program is the solution.

Sheltering Animals & Families Together (SAF-T) was created by Allie Phillips and is a global initiative working with domestic violence shelters to create on-site pet housing. The SAF-T Start-Up Manual is the first of its kind and helps domestic violence shelters thru the process. In this webinar you'll learn the 4 different SAF-T housing models, how to receive sustainable financial support, how to overcome common concerns such as allergies, fear of pets, pet injuries, what types of animals to take in, concerns from staff or residents, and more.

Photos and stories of what other SAF-T shelters are doing will be featured.
