Badge #124 by Janice Howden of Saskatoon is the latest book to be released by Benchmark Press.
Between the years 2000 and 2012, Lloyd Howden worked as an Animal Protection Officer for the Saskatchewan Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). Badge #124 gives readers a behind-the-scenes glimpse at his tireless effort to improve animal welfare and educate the public, while highlighting the dedication of Saskatchewan SPCA officers across the province as they investigate animal neglect and abuse complaints, and enforce the Saskatchewan Animal Protection Act.
Lloyd passed away after a short, courageous battle with cancer in August of 2013. These are his stories as told to his wife Janice and organized into Badge #124.
Saskatchewan SPCA Board of Directors President Constance Roussel comments on Badge #124:
“Badge #124 is an insightful, true depiction of the life of an Animal Protection Officer in Saskatchewan. It helps the reader understand not only the laws that protect animals but the passion one must have for animals to be able to enforce those laws. Lloyd Howden was a leader, breaking ground for future Animal Protection Officers. His professionalism was evident in the many cases he worked on during his career. As well, his sense of humour is clearly reflected in the stories told in this book. Thank you, Janice, for bringing this book to life.”
“Benchmark Press is proud to publish this novel and help bring Lloyd Howden’s incredible story to life,” says Pat Rediger, Managing Partner of Benchmark Press. “Lloyd worked tirelessly to improve animal welfare in Saskatchewan, and it’s comforting to know there are many other Saskatchewan SPCA officers equally dedicated to the cause. Congratulations Janice on having the courage to share Lloyd’s story.”
